The training facility is
located on three acres. The main building is 5000 square
feet with multiple rooms for training and classes. Also
at the training center are other buildings used for
training to include a barn, house trailer and sheds.
Multiple vehicles facilitate both narcotic vehicle
searches and patrol traffic stops training. In addition
to numerous sedans of different types, there is also a
school bus, livestock trailer, camper and trailer rig. Training is also conducted at a 23
acre abandoned cannery. This facility has numerous warehouses
and offices which have been set up for both narcotic
training scenarios and patrol building searches.
Additionally, training is
conducted at several businesses after work hours.
Narcotic vehicle searches are practiced on the highway to
expose the dogs to traffic.
To view established teams
working on the road, students may ride along with a handler/dog
team. For a nominal fee students can stay at the training
center in a mobile home with private rooms. It is
completely funished with linens, kitchen utensils, refrigerator,
stove, microwave, stereo, cable TV and telephone.
There is a small motel in
Broussard (one mile from the training center) which
offers weekly rates. There is a larger hotel which allows
dogs by the Lafayette Airport, seven miles from the
training center.
